Description: A lovely classic understated design typical of Imperial Russia by one of the period's premier silversmiths--signed and dated PAVEL OVCHINNIKOV. It carries his stamp under the base and the assay information by Assay Master Ivan Yefimovich Konstantinov who served the Moscow area from 1875 to 1882, and the date of the assay 1875. It bears his mark "84 " which indicates a silver content of .875. Typical of most Russian silver of high quality of that time period. This is a large and showy treasure from the prime period of the Russian Empire's artistic output -- clean and understated designs for those who prefered it to the busy (and somewhat gaudy) enamal/ inlay work that was all the fad of the period and the following years. Near perfect condition--there are a couple of very small dimples in out-of-the-way places--pretty much un-noticeable unless you go looking for them. Easily repaired by a silversmith if they bother you. This is in overall great condition and a very pure example of the period by one of the most noted masters of the age.Size is just short of 10 inches tall and 5 inches wide at the upper rim. According to the previous owner it had an insurance appraisal of $1750.. FREE INSURED SHIPPING TO THE LOWER 48.
