Description: I acquired this Gowin photo while collecting photographs in the 1970s and doing my own work at the same time. This is one of a series of images taken by Gowin of his wife Edith with her mother as well as of other family members.This particular image is on page 39 of his first book entitled Emmet Gowin Photographs and is dated 1970 although my photograph is listed verso as "Edith and Renie (Rennie in the book) Booher, Danville, VA, 1969" and signed in pencil. If you are looking at this Gowin photograph, you already know something about his career. (MOMA, Corcorcan Gallery, et al, and has been awarded a Guggenheim, two National Endowment for Arts Fellowships, the Pew Fellowship, etc. He was mentored by Harry Callaham whose own vision is a frequent visitor to Gowin's remarkable photographs. He is a graduate of RISD and had a 25 year teaching career at Princeton.7 1/2" x 5" image on 10" x 8" print paper. Excellent condition. We are selling the last of our personal tribal and art collections.
